A jigsaw of love…as epitomised by Catherine.

Created by Jenny 2 years ago

Catherine treasured and nurtured not just her immediate family but also an extended family network- more delightfully named by Clarisse as a 'jigsaw of love’. She and Calum may have lived a long way from most of us but it was never a barrier. Catherine was well organised and she (often with Calum) made countless trips, pieced together to support or visit family. So many examples come to mind but her work in looking after (aunt) Mary who lived in Edinburgh merits special mention and lasting gratitude from the rest of the family.
Catherine loved a family gathering and we had some splendid times. From the family bowling competitions to more recent get-togethers, all were enriched by Catherine’s loving inclusiveness. It is fair to say that the most spectacular gathering of (relatively) recent times was for Eilidh and Liam’s wedding. Catherine was beautiful in heathery purple, clearly delighted with Eilidh and Liam and delighting everyone with her genuine friendliness and humour. She brought people together and linked them.

My last time with Catherine was last year for breakfast in the Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow Central Station. She and Calum arrived by sleeper from London. They had spent wonderful weeks in their purpose- built grandparental apartment with Eilidh, Liam, Caitlin and Malcolm. Catherine was truly content that day- her jigsaw was complete- and we had the best of breakfasts.
